D-STAR Setup Notes

How to Program Your Radio for the Kansas City System

Lee KØLW, operating a Digital Mode at the Independence MO
Races 2007 Field Day contest station-WØCW, June, 2007.

In playing with the programming, we thought this might help new users
get in on the activity.

· The 1st thing to know about programming for D*Star is that you need
to have your Callsign, and the repeaters Callsign and a designator for which
band you are operating on. It seems a little strange at 1st, but as you play
with the programming, it will make sense.

· Our programming has been done with a PC then "Up-Loaded" to the radio.
In our opinion, this is the easiest way to do it. Following is a general way to
utilize the system, and get you active.

Programming the UHF portion

Ø       If you’re not registered on the gateway you will not be able to go world-wide.

Ø       So to register on the gateway please visit the following web link to get started.

Ø       http://regdstar.byrg.net

Ø       Registering takes just a few minutes.

Ø      Please note that Callsign and Password are case sensitive!
Callsign must be in Upper Case!

Ø      All you need to do to talk on the Gateway (once you register and are approved on the gateway) is set up your radio as follows:

      Your: CQCQCQ

      RPT1: W0CW***B

      RPT2: W0CW***G

      *** = 3 spaces

Ø      If you just want to talk locally without going out over the Gateway, just remove the RPT2 (gateway) field.

      Your: CQCQCQ

      RPT1: W0CW***B

      RPT2: Left Blank

      *** = 3 spaces

Another D*Star System in the South Part of the Metro is:  KØHAM at Louisburg Ks( MAP )

·        RPT1: K0HAM**B

·        442.125 +5

We are still learning how to do all of this, so bear with us.

The Back Yard Repeater Group & The Kansas City DX Club in association with, Locally Owned and Operated Amateur Radio Store -Associated Radio, Overland Park KS, is proud to supply this new mode to the KC area.

We invite you to join our Yahoo Group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kcdstar/

WELCOME TO DSTAR AND REMEMBER ONE RULE:

ü      HAVE FUN!!!!
